March 18 - April 1, 2010
A selling exhibition of one-off ceramics by British artist Jacqui Roche, an established homeware designer who has previously worked with the likes of Designers Guild and Margaret Howell.
This most recent collection of her work is directly inspired by Roche's teaching with children, "I enjoy teaching children, their world of imagination is fascinating and enchanting". Pieces include nostalgic cress gardens, egg cups and trinket boxes populated with creatures and flora. The childlike subject matter with its fairytale symbolism of toadstools and butterflies evoking memories of Alice in Wonderland belies Roche's obsession with clay and her dexterity for the material gained over a period of twenty five years.
Each piece is thrown on the wheel and incorporates hand modelled and hand painted figurative details. The fairytale ceramic collection is exclusive to Couverture & The Garbstore, with prices starting from £49.
