A selling exhibition of the cult French artist and designer’s work.

Raymond Peynet (1908-1999), shot to prominence with his figures  “Les Amoreux” or “The Lovers” internationally and particularly in France where he became a household name in the fifties and sixties.

Instantly recognisable The Lovers, with their captivating charm and wit, appeared in all manner of forms including prints, cards, books, jewellery and ceramics. Peynet’s collaboration with the German porcelain manufacturer Rosenthal, between 1955 and 1965, was extensive and his pieces are among the most collectable. Today there is a resurgence of interest in his art, with three Peynet museums in France and two in Japan.

In celebration of the French artist’s work, Couverture & The Garbstore sold first edition and out-of-print books illustrated by Peynet including The Lover’s Keepsake, Pocket Book, Bedside Book, Weekend Book and Travelogue, plus She Loves Me She Loves Me Not and The Lovers as well as the modern title ‘Peynet Collections’ which details the body of Peynet’s work. A selection of porcelain dating from Peynet’s collaboration with Rosenthal in the form of dishes, trinket containers and vases were also available, plus metal figurines, collectable postcards and framed illustrations.
